Ciarán qualified as a physiotherapist in 2013 from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. After working in a University Hospital for 4 years, he moved to Perth in 2017 and completed his Masters of Clinical Physiotherapy (Musculoskeletal Major) in Curtin University, obtaining a High Distinction. During his Masters programme, Ciaran was involved in research examining chronic low back pain. Since then, he has been working in a private practice setting, as well as being a treating clinician in a large multi-centre study exploring a new approach to chronic low back pain called Cognitive Functional Therapy. Ciaran has also worked part-time as physiotherapist with numerous different sporting teams, at both club and semi-professional level.
Ciarán has a vast experience in managing and rehabilitating a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions. He is also passionate about providing the highest level of evidence-based practice for musculoskeletal conditions encompassing a holistic approach that puts the patient first and helps them to achieve their own specific goals.
Ciarán’s areas of interest include:
- Complex and chronic pain management – including neck, lower back, hip and knee pain
- Acute knee injuries; in particular, ACL rehab pre-op or post-op. Having previously had to undergo surgery for his own ACL, Ciarán knows exactly what it takes to get back to daily activity and sport.
- Acute soft tissue injuries – both sporting and non-sporting
- Running injuries
- Osteoarthritis – Ciarán is a registered GLA:D practitioner
- Headache Management
- Vertigo
Outside of work, Ciarán has always been an avid sports person. In his spare time, he enjoys going to the gym, running, hiking and surfing (poorly!). He also enjoys cooking, travelling and spending time with his fiancé and dog.
