What is cognitive functional therapy? How can it reduce low back pain and get you moving?
Our clinical directors Prof Peter O’Sullivan and Dr JP Caneiro have published an article with The Conversation about how cognitive functional therapy (CFT) can help patients with chronic back pain to trust and move their bodies again.
Along with their colleagues, Pete and JP discuss how often patients are told to ‘protect’ their backs / bodies (such as avoiding movement). However, this advice is not based on evidence. In fact, an emerging treatment known as CFT aims to help patients undo some of these unhelpful and restrictive practices. This is based on their teams recent clinical trials published in the world’s leading medical journal The Lancet.
